Design is Change Posters

For the non-profit poster series I chose to create posters for the Alzheimer’s Association.  The association was founded in 1980 and is a voluntary organization that specializes in Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.  Alzheimer’s is a form of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. The disease progressively gets worse.  I chose this organization because I believe that the mind and memory is one of the worst things a person can lose and I had a great grandfather who suffered from the disease.

The posters take the idea of “foggy memory” when someone cannot remember something by covering a recognizable image that represents an aspect in someone’s life with a cloudy effect.  It would appear as though the image would eventually be overcome by the clouds leading to “forgotten”.  The text is also written in a cloudy style so that it too appears to eventually disappear.

With these posters I hope that those who see them would connect to at least one and feel that they would not want to forget that aspect, leading to assisting the organization.

The app is called LiquoRun.  It is meant for parties  where there is alcohol.  It uses the user’s current location to show what liquor stores are open within their vicinity at the time of checking with the app.  The user can also search for a certain drink and see which store is open and has it in stock.  When the user searches for a drink it also shows possible combinations and alternatives.

The user can also create an account where they can add five favorite drinks and see what their recent searches were.  In addition, they can rate drinks.

Article 13: Right to Free Movement In and Out of the Country

Article 13 is described as: (1) Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each State, (2) Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.

People have the right to come and go from this country as they please.  Many come to this country in hopes of a better future than what they had in their original home.  These people should be allowed to be given the opportunity to come into this country and given a chance.  The same goes for if someone wants to leave the United States in hopes to see more of the world or even if they themselves do not feel comfortable here anymore.

To me, what best represents travel around the world is a passport.  When you travel with a passport, it will get stamped so I used that idea to stamp onto the cover of a passport the freedom that the citizens have.
